Dior Homme -
release date - 2011
notes per Dior website - Cardamom from Guatemala, Iris Absolute from Florence, Vetiver from Haiti
When I first used this scent, it was extremely rich and soft floral smelling. It actually felt quite daring. I wore it to work, and walking to the bus stop I could smell it very well. It was so rich and full smelling, quite floral and smelled purple if that makes sense. It just smelled quite beautiful and expensive, and borderline feminine that I was sure people were going to start looking around to find where it was coming from and then start staring at me, but for the same reasons, I was just finding this scent quite amazing.
It still does have a purple-ish smell to me, but it doesn't feel quite as daring for me anymore, though it is a daring scent in that way, and I like it quite a bit, even though it is not an old school macho type frag like the ones I normally like the most.
After using this a few more times I noticed a green kinda spicyness to it which was zingy, and I would only notice it now and then, but it was really intriguing. Actually, now that I remember it, I got a sample from Sephora first and for the first usages that is what I sprayed. After a while I just really loved the delicious beauty of this, and the minor nuances, and bought it online. $100 for a 5 oz. bottle, which is pretty expensive, but Diors seem to be this way since I also got a 6.8 oz. of Fahrenheit in the same delivery also for $100.
Anyways, this is a great change up sent from the spicy 80's and 70's fragrances I tend to really love the most.
Luxurious like a thick soft cashmere scarf, lovely purple woody floral with some green later on and a fresh top note make this a real pleasure to wear.

Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme
Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme -
release date - 1978
notes per VC&A's website - sage & citrus, spice & leather, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli
I love VC&A's Pour Homme. If I smell it from the sprayer it smells kinda tar leathery and I smell a soft spiciness, but when I spray it, I am mesmerized by it's fabulous, rich, spicy, dark, silky, tangy, warm full blast.
It's such a soft spicy scent but it's so rich. When I first tried this I was amazed with it's richness and complexity. First it is pillow soft like laying on a thick puffy pillow of petals, or laying on a soft cloud, then it gets tangy and spicy, turning quite soapy, and leathery.
This is a very rich scent, and the onyx bottle is quite a piece too.
I continue to get amazed every time with this.

Azzaro Pour Homme
Azzaro Pour Homme -
released in 1978
notes per Azzaro's website - star anise, lavender, vetiver.
Azzaro Pour Homme is one of my favorite fragrances. I say that because I wear it a lot, or have been, but now that I have gone through my 6.8oz bottle already, and though I have another 3.4oz new one, I also have about 14 other perfumes, some large bottles, and I don't want those to go to waste so I am wearing them more.
But, I have worn it a lot, and it is really a go to scent for me it's so versatile. Add that the price is very affordable, and it smells great. I will keep using this scent for a long time.
The scent of Azzaro Pour Homme is a musky fougere. On Azzaro's website it is described as a "weapon of seduction" and I love the tag line "for men who love women who love men", or "for men who women love to love". This alludes to the sort of lavender and anise shower fresh masculine, and the elegant dusty spiciness, and of course the musky flirtyness that is in this scent.
I get a very nice fresh shot of anise and soft dusty spice right off, then orange basil, musk, and later an amber scent with some vetiver.
In warm weather, I notice the basil and oily musk more, or when I get hot from doing something or running to catch a bus I notice tangy juniper. In cold weather I notice a real nice creamy spicy sandalwood.
So this perfume has many ingredients and many facets, but I think it performs best in moderate temperatures. It is not too heavy of a perfume, so great for the office, daily wear, or even formal events. Like I said it is quite versatile, and the scent is really nice.
